Dana's Vietnam Packing List 2000
Dana traveled to Nam Dinh to adopt her 8 1/2 month old daughter in 2000.
Plan to purchase some things in Viet Nam. Diapers, formula, bottles, soaps & toiletries are all easy to find in Hanoi and Saigon.
Take a calculator for less confusion in paying with Dong. Most shop keepers will also have a calculator handy to show you the price.
Take an extra pair of shoes or plan to buy some there! During our first trip, I only took one pair of shoes and they smelled really horrible after only a few days in the heat of Saigon!
Take some American $1 bills to use to pay for cyclo rides or to use for other small items. I took 50 $1 bills and used about half of that.
Remember to bring some warm clothing for baby. Hotels and airplanes can be very cold.
Invest in some good travel books, such as the Lonely Planet series on Viet Nam.
Especially if you are travelling alone, invest in a good, comfortable backpack.
Roll clothing to make it more compact and fit more easily into your luggage.
Little things like tape, baggies, and the scissors from a sewing kit will come in very handy.
If you are adopting a baby, bring a baby bjorn or snuggli or some type of baby carrier. I bought the baby bjorn. It's more expensive than most other carriers, but it is well worth every penny, in my opinion!
