Pearl S. Buck
Vietnam Adoption Program Description: Welcome House® Adoption Program of Pearl
S. Buck International provides home study, post placement and extensive
pre-and post adoption support and services. Families in our service area
participate in 8 hours of pre-adoption training at our home office in
Bucks County, PA, educational workshops for adoptive parents, cultural
events and social gatherings. In addition, Welcome House® provides
post adoption services through the Pennsylvania Statewide Adoption Network.
Families outside our service area receive monthly updates via our Welcome
News newsletter and regular phone and e-mail contact with their assigned
Adoption Coordinator.
Pearl S. Buck International's Vietnam office manages our adoption program.
We are licensed to provide adoption services in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi
Province. Families will be escorted and supported during their visit to
Vietnam by the staff of our Vietnam Office.
Humanitarian Work in Vietnam: Pearl S. Buck International (PSBI) has a long history of assisting disadvantaged Vietnamese children. We originally began operations in Vietnam in 1971 and quickly established programming to assist children who were fathered by U.S. servicemen. After helping over a thousand children through direct assistance programs and adoption services, including "Operation Babylift", PSBI was forced to close our programs in 1975 when the new government essentially closed the country to foreign assistance organizations.
In 1989, PSBI was able to resume our work in Vietnam. Since 1989, we have provided direct assistance to bi-racial children and their families, provided assistance for children living in orphanages, provided adoption services and implemented a large scale program to assist children with hearing impairments and other disabilities through USAID funding.
We are currently in need of sponsors for older children living in orphanages in Hay Tay, Hanoi and Ha Nam provinces. Sponsoring a child is great way for adoptive families to learn more about Vietnamese culture, while making a difference in the life of a child.
Requirements: Applicants age 25-49 years are eligible for an infant; age 50 and older are eligible for a child 3+ years of age. Single women may adopt. Accepted from anywhere in the U.S. No limitations on family size.
